Child Safety Standards

Last updated: August 19, 2026

Nowby enforces a zero-tolerance policy toward child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). This page sets out what we prohibit, how to report it, how reports are handled, and how to reach us.

1. Nowby is for adults 18 and over only

Nowby requires users to be at least 18 years old. This requirement is stated in our Terms of Service and must be accepted by every user at sign-up. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone below that age.

Accounts found to belong to minors are deactivated and their data deleted. Users can report a suspected underage user directly from the app.

2. Strictly prohibited

The following are absolutely prohibited on Nowby and result in a permanent ban without warning:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form, including images, text, or links.
  • Sexualised conversation involving or directed at minors.
  • Grooming — attempting to solicit, lure, or manipulate a minor, including arranging to meet.
  • Trading, advertising, or facilitating access to child exploitative material or contacts.
  • Impersonating a minor, or using a child's photo as a profile picture in a sexual context.

3. How to report

Any user can report directly from inside the app, without contacting us first: open the relevant user's profile or conversation, tap the flag icon (Report), then choose the “Child Safety (Exploitation/CSAE)” category. It is flagged as urgent and enters our highest-priority queue. A separate “Underage User” category exists for suspected minors where no exploitation is involved. You can add a written explanation to the report.

Reports can also be sent to the child safety email below, including by people who do not use Nowby. Reports concerning child safety are always treated as our highest priority.

You can also block any user at any time; blocking closes the conversation and makes you invisible to each other.

4. How reports are handled

Child safety reports receive human review at the highest priority, ahead of all other report queues. Where a report is substantiated, the offending account is permanently banned, the content is removed, and related conversations are closed.

We retain records relating to reports and moderation actions even after an account is deleted — so that a violation history cannot be erased by the offender simply deleting their account and signing up again.

Being clear about our scope: Nowby does not perform automated scanning of uploaded photos. Enforcement relies on user reports and moderator review. We state this plainly rather than claim capabilities we do not operate.

5. Legal compliance & reporting to authorities

Nowby complies with applicable child safety laws. When we identify or receive credible reports of child sexual abuse material or conduct, we report it to the competent authorities.

In Indonesia, reports are made to law enforcement and the relevant child protection agencies. For cross-border cases we cooperate with the relevant authorities, including reporting to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where applicable.

We preserve evidence required for investigation and provide it to authorities in response to lawful requests.

6. Child safety contact
